'Bella' (Walkabout act)

'The Leaves' (R&D)
Animate held a 3-day shadow puppetry R&D to explore lighting and colour, scale, and various storytelling techniques.
As part of the R&D, we also hosted a 'Make Your Own Shadow Puppet Box' community workshop and presented a free-to-attend public sharing of what we'd discovered.
This project was supported by Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council. Animate would like to thank Four Lanes Trust for additional funding, Mary and the rest of the Proteus Theatre team for welcoming us into their Creation Space, Becky and Nick from Scratchbuilt Productions for their collaboration and guidance, Ross Harvie and Alison Hamilton.

“We are creatures of the water. Before we walk... we swim"
Currently in the early stages of development, this swashbuckling, family-focused folk tale celebrates courage, collaboration and the freedom to chart your own course. Combining storytelling, puppetry and interactive sea shanties, the play invites audiences to step aboard a ship and become part of its crew.
